The match was scheduled to end up a 60:00 draw but Ric Flair called an audible at the 17:00 minute mark and had Veneno win with his finisher, a short piledriver. The decision was later reversed or not recognized by the NWA despite Veneno’s clean pinfall. Also on the same show, Victor Jovica defeated Roddy Piper by DQ. The show draws a reported 13,000.

Jack veneno with the nwa world heavyweight title following the win over ric flair. I long assumed this photo was snapped by Veneno's people after he "won" it for publicity. I always assumed the U.S. flag was backward because this was a copy someone made with the image mirrored. However, I looked up the NWA World title belt with Ric Flair holding it just before this match and compared the colors on the Mexican flag which are NOT mirrored. So, I believe this is actually a replica belt.
